Saar Bend return excursion from Mettlach

About 1 ½ hours, including lock passage

Departure: Mettlach dock, Saaruferstrasse

At the very beginning of the excursion, the lock at Mettlach raises our boat from 512 ft/156 m to 548 ft/167 m above sea level. Then we sail into the nature preserve of the Saar Bend, 4.4 mi/7 km long. The river makes a 300° bend, cut into the bedrock over millions of years. The Montclair Castle ruin is located on the forested hilltops within the Saar Bend. Our excursion takes you through the entire Saar Bend as far as Dreisbach and return. With prior booking, you can board or depart the boat in Dreisbach. 

Recommendation: On Thursdays and Saturdays you can choose to continue the excursion as far as Saarburg (until October 3), at 3:45 p.m. on both days. Departure Mettlach: 3:45 p.m., arrival Saarburg: 5:30 p.m. 

King John return excursion, about 1 ¼ hours

Departure Saarburg dock, Brückenstrasse

Enjoy the loveliest stretch of landscape on the Saar, past romantic villages and imposing wineries. Above everything sits the Klause of Kastel on a cliff. Blind King John of Luxembourg once lay in his tomb there. The turning points are the lock of Serrig and the harbour of Saarburg.
